988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Call or text 988 for free, confidential support 24/7 for any mental health or suicidal crisis. Chat online is also available.  

For Veterans, Call 988, then press 1; or text 838255. Free, confidential support for veterans and their families 24/7.

National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI provides helplines that are available throughout the week, usually during the morning through the later evening. To reach NAMI’s national helpline, you can call, text, or email them Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 10 PM, at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264), text “HelpLine” to 62640 or email helpline@nami.org.

Disaster Distress Helpline

Call or text 1-800-985-5990 for immediate counseling after disasters, available in more than 100 languages.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline

The SAMHSA Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7/365 referral service for individuals and families with substance use and mental health concerns. SAMHSA’s Helpline will connect you with treatment programs in your area. You can reach the helpline by calling 1-800-662-HELP (4357).

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is a free, confidential, 24/7/365 lifeline for LGBTQI+ persons. You can call 1-866-488-7386, text ‘START’ to 678-678, or chat.

American Psychological Association (APA) Crisis Hotline & Resource List

APA Crisis Hotline & Resource List has additional resources based on your specific situation and need, from alcohol use disorder to domestic violence helplines.

If you are unable to reach any of the mental health crisis resources listed above, please call 911 immediately. It is crucial to get help quickly in an emergency situation, especially if there is any risk of harm to yourself or others.

 

When you call 911, clearly explain that you are experiencing a mental health crisis or that someone you know is in urgent need of assistance. Emergency responders, including police and medical personnel trained in crisis intervention, will be dispatched to provide immediate support and ensure safety. Do not hesitate to seek urgent help—early intervention can save lives and connect you to the right care promptly.
